A charming, well-presented, semi-detached cottage, situated next to the owner’s working Grade II listed farm which dates back to 1757, farming pedigree Herdwick and Texel sheep. This picturesque cottage is situated in stunning countryside, one mile from the centre of Nether Wasdale village and 200 yards from Wastwater Lake, which is the deepest lake in the country and is directly opposite The Screes, the dramatic mountain backdrop to the lake.
The cosy sitting room has clues to the age and history attached to this lovely building with an ancient bread oven, woodburning stove, beams above small and unusually-shaped windows, and you can even spot the ancient stone in the bathroom. Modern comforts also beckon you with an en-suite bathroom to the ground floor bedroom, as well as the spacious upstairs bathroom, well-decorated bedrooms, Sky TV and WiFi.
This Cottage can be booked with The Old Barn - together they sleep 10 persons.

At the back of the property you can almost touch the beginning of the fells from your window. The farm is surrounded by ancient woodland which attracts wildlife such as foxes, deer, badgers and birds including owls, woodpeckers and buzzards. In the farmyard you will see a different type of bird as an array of free range hens are very busy clucking, pecking and hopefully also laying eggs; you may get to sample some.
Outside the front door is an enclosed patio garden with tubs of flowers, an ideal spot to sit with family and friends with a coffee or glass of wine and discuss which fell to tackle or what the day entailed.
Nether Wasdale has two pubs, both serving food, so there is no need to travel far for a meal out, one of them even has its own brewery. In the nearby village of Santon Bridge there is a wonderful tea room serving home-made cakes and a variety of teas and coffees, whilst in the pub, The Biggest Liar Competition is held annually.
With an impressive range of fells on your doorstep including Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain, there is ample choice even for the most experienced of hikers.
Aside from the fells and valley to explore, a short drive will take you to Ravenglass where you can board heritage steam engines on the narrow gauge railway ‘The La’al Ratty’ and take in the Eskdale Valley scenery in covered or open-top carriages. Muncaster Castle, Owl Centre and Gardens are only a short drive away offering fun days out for all the family, plus the west coast is also within easy reach. Wasdale is a beautiful, unspoilt, tranquil valley with dramatic scenery and lake views, rich in wildlife and perfect for all outdoor pursuits including bird watching and photography. Whatever your interests, returning to the welcoming and cosy Stable End Cottage in this rural, peaceful place makes this an ideal choice which can be enjoyed at any time of the year.
